Safety Services are responsible for
- providing advice and guidance on fire issues relating to
- Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations,
- Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) and
- other legislation relating to the activities of building occupants
- advising on general fire issues arising from occupiers’ activities (excluding Estates work)
- organising and monitoring building fire evacuations (except for halls of residence)
- liaising with the HSE on fire safety issues
- the acquisition and distribution of fire safety information
- advising university committees on issues detailed above
- recording (and retaining as necessary) reports of fire incidents, defining them and completing annual Universities Safety and Health Association (USHA) returns
- managing the role of the Fire Training and Fire Evacuation Coordinator.
